This is the fulcrum that the release fork pivots on. Over time they will wear down which can cause clutch release issues. If you are planning on a putting an aftermarket clutch in this is the best time to replace this piece.
Note: Shimming this pivot point up with a washer or two can help with release issues on heavier then stock clutches. It is pretty common practice to do this during an aftermarket clutch install.
